Haydock is an easy run for us, about three miles from the Golborne base, so it is one of the areas we get to most. Being this close means we can fit a car in quickly, and there is nothing added to the price for coming over into WA11. We know our way around the place too, from Church Road through to Clipsley Lane and the estates hanging off it, so finding somewhere to set up is rarely a problem.

The streets here throw up all sorts. You have post-war semis with proper driveways, newer estates where the drives are tighter and the cars tend to be recent, and older terraces where motors live at the kerb. We arrive completely self contained, bringing the water and power with us, so a narrow terraced street gives us no more bother than a long drive out near Haydock Park.

A lot of Haydock is built around the motorway. Junction 23 of the M6 is right on the doorstep, and the distribution parks and industrial estates close by mean plenty of commuters and work vehicles piling on the motorway miles. That sort of driving throws road film, brake dust and winter salt at a car quicker than most, and it dulls the paint before long.
